Coach Ted Lawrence has been operating 9er Baseball camps and clinics throughout Westchester for over 20 years. Ted is head coach of the Varsity Baseball Team at Rye Country Day School (RCDS), where he has taught physical education since 1996. Coach Lawrence recently recorded his 100th career coaching victory (2005 season, 8th year as head coach) with his RCDS Wildcats.

Coach Lawrence understands well the importance of developing an excellent foundation in baseball fundamentals (pitching, defense and hitting) as well as in the specialized skills of base running and situational baseball. It was his experience and dedication to this foundation that helped propel the 2003 RCDS Wildcats to its first ever New York State Independent High School (NYSIHS) Baseball Championship. This was the first state championship in any sport at Rye Country Day School. In 2005 and 2006, the Wildcats again made it to NYSIHS championship games and were the runner-up in two hard-fought contests. The 2008 Wildcats recorded its best season ever at RCDS. With a final records of 20 and 3, as well as, regular season and tournament league championships; the team was the first ever at RCDS to win 20 games in a season in any sport in school history.

Just like his players, Coach Lawrence is always learning about the game of baseball. He stays current and innovative by attending several major league and college coaching clinics each year. Coach Lawrence also worked for the nationally ranked University of Miami Hurricanes as an instructor for their Hitting and Pitching/Defense clinics in December.

Coach Lawrence started his baseball career as a Little League catcher and continued to play the position in high school and college and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1985. He holds the New York State High School record for throwing out “would be” base stealers at 94% (15 out of 16) and received a full baseball scholarship to Pace University. While playing in the Tigers and Rangers organizations, he was fortunate to catch John Smoltz, Kenny Hill, Kenny Rogers and several other current major league pitchers.

“9er” represents the number Coach Lawrence wore throughout his high school, college, and professional career. His high school jersey #9 was retired in 1985.
